Taking a bold step toward 🇪🇺 tech independence.
We’re investing €75 million to build EURO-3C, a new federated Telco-Edge-Cloud infrastructure that merges telecoms and cloud computing.
Our goal is simple: to ensure Europe has the power to deliver its own digital services securely and independently. This project supports innovation in 6G and AI while benefiting the economies of all EU countries.
Transparency and digital sovereignty are at the heart of our work.
@EUCommission Definitely a good stepping direction. Still governments in the EU should embrace open source for their services and federated ways of communication. This will be a reason for many people to check mastodon ( and alternatives ) to get informed.
"Transparency and digital sovereignty are at the heart of our work" I have evidence from inside your own offices that that is nowhere near the reality
@EUCommission So EU spends €75 million on #digitalsovereignty You can follow the project through Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Youtube or X... we really do have a long way to go.
Building Europes sovereign cloud.

Cloud Front is a US OWNED SERVICE
@EUCommission Why does European infrastructure need AI?
@EUCommission What if instead we prioritise local solutions where all the software runs on local hardware, and all the data is stored locally? Maybe some cloud storage for offsite backups, but that's that. And everything end-to-end encrypted so that nobody but the owner of the data can decrypt it.
@EUCommission
Why do you define it a "bold step""???
Does that mean you are investing our money in a project you are not sure will actually come to fruition?
Or has someone been trying to intimidate you into desisting?
Perhaps we should know about it if that is the case.
@EUCommission Do not let Hungary join in any way
@EUCommission Our goal is simple, to spy our citizens by unifying the telco infra
@EUCommission kinda ironic that the link goes to Cloudfront (amazon)
@EUCommission wir ersetzen die Lösung von einen Superreichen durch eine andere und auch damit wird man nicht unabhängig man hat nur den Topf gewechselt den man bedient
@EUCommission in general good direction but it's not enough...
- push for using actual open source and open standards as much as possible (especially in public institutions! and no, 'docx' being ISO standard doesn't count)
- push for OS being open (block google recent attempt at strongholding Android; support local Android favors and AOSP so no bank, or even your own wallet, requires Play Services or Store)
apart from EU Cloud, please discourage use of USA tracker like googletagmanager
I've seen it even in Italy's public health's website, where people book medical examinations and quite accurate hints on individual health may be inferred!
EU independence needs more awareness, even in website design and development.
@EUCommission "Cloud" based computing are not environmental good with servers running 24/7/365 ! We need much more European open-source software to work OFF-line !
@EUCommission name any 5 Eu countries. Bet you can't
How about 27 countries, @humanhorseshoes?
Belgium, Bulgaria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Croatia, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland, Sweden.
Why do you ask?
@EUCommission Why are non EU tourists permitted to work in the EU? Why do I have to compete as an EU citizen against non-EU English speaking, American and British tourists for contracts, housing, jobs and EU rights in Hungary, Croatia, Latvia, Austria, the Netherlands? The US, Canada, UK and Australia are not on this list and yet these are the people taking jobs and contracts from EU citizens.
